この楽曲は、標題をモールス信号化した素材と、鳥を模した自由な挿入句により成り立っている。 変形・重層化されたモールス信号の擬態によって様々な『オブジェ』が構築され、そのオブジェの連続によって次のような物語が描かれる。
《高層ビル群から飛び立つ1羽の鳥。鳥は上空の雲の中へと消え、雨雲からやがて雨が降り出す。雨は勢いを増し、地上に溜まり、水の流れは海へ還る。》
–––しかし、その物語は所詮信号の連続の中での錯覚で、演奏者たちはただ標題の問いを、互いにそして聴衆に向けて投げ掛け続けているのにすぎない。
“How Do I Stay Young and Beautiful?” – L. Moholy-Nagy
This piece is composed of a Morse code version of the title, and a free-form phrase that imitates a bird. Various “objects” are constructed by transforming and layering Morse code mimicry, and the following story is depicted through a series of these objects.
A bird flies away from a group of skyscrapers. The bird disappears into the clouds above, and rain begins to fall from the clouds. The rain increases in intensity, accumulates on the ground, and the stream of water returns to the sea.
…The story, however, is just an illusion in a series of signals, and the performers are merely asking the question of the title to each other and to the audience.
